I created a folded gift box combining tessellation with folding. Each side of the box (box panel), will comprise a laser cut voronoi lattice revealing the contents of the box, with interlocking tabs to hold the box shut once it is folded together. The box can assume a non orthogonal geometry, but all panels but be contiguous within a single 18”x24” sheet of chipboard. I generated the lattice pattern utilizing Tessellation techniques . I designed the box itself as a 2 dimensional drawing in Rhino, I wrote a brief Grasshopper script to draw 2D tabs. I exported the final Rhino drawing to Rivet for line-weight adjustment as a 2D file for the laser cutter.
